Week Six
In this weeks seminar we looked at definitions of marketing. With regards to events we learned that marketing could be defined as "the function of event management that can keep touch with the event participants and visitors, read their needs and build a communication programme which expresses the event purpose and objectives". We then needed to look at ways in which we would market an event such as ours by defining what the target market is, and looking at how we would position the product or event in order to get the most exposure for it. We then (in our groups) discussed how we would market our event. In my group we discussed how the "Tinsel and Tiara Dinner and Auction Evening" would be marketed as a high end prestige event, held at a glamorous venue in order to appeal to distinguished people.

Events Concept
In the seminar the groups discussed the event concept, and we started to draw write our 500 word proposal on the event that we are planning, based around the five W's concept.
The group that i am working in decided that a Star Studded charity auction and dinner would be a good event to stage as it would raise the profile of Christian Aid(our chosen charity). After looking at the Christian Aid Website i identified several celebrities that we could invite to our event, or ask to donate items for the auction. The event is to be called "Tinsel and Tiara's" as i think the Tinsel theme ties in well with Christmas and the Tiara theme adds the suggestion of glammor to the event. The event will be staged in the country house that the charity has links with.

Events Seminar Two(Designing Events Concept)
In this seminar our group had to deduce what catagory of event our proposed event would fall into, ie Hallmark, International,Local etc. We accomplished this by drawing a chart and fitting the criteria of our event to the criteria on the chart. We decided that our event would be a local/community event on the grounds that the event is to be staged using a small budget (£10,000) and only seeks to invite around 600 guests. We decided that the event should be based in an area with a fairly wealthy population so that maximum revenue could be generated from a relatively small amount of people.

First Events Seminar
In the first seminar the class introduced themselves and the sector of events we were interested in. We were then talked through what the module would entail and what would be expected of us. After that the class divided into the groups that we would be working in and were given a brief of an event which aimed to raise money for a charity. We then had to think of the objectives that the event needed to fufill and drew them up in a brain storming plan, several of the points that were raised were.
1. Who should be targeted to attend the event.
2.When should the event be held
3. The ethnic compatability of the event with the charity.
